The Karl Fischer Volumetric Moisture Analyzer is primarily used to determine the moisture content in products from industries such as petroleum, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, daily chemicals, and power. The basic principle of the Karl Fischer reaction is: in a non-aqueous solvent system, iodine, sulfur dioxide, and trace amounts of water react in a molar ratio of 1:1:1. The reaction equation is shown in Equation (1).

In the above reaction equation, CH3OH, SO2, I2, H2O, and RN represent methanol, sulfur dioxide, iodine, water, and organic base, respectively.
The main components of the instrument include: titration cell, burette, indicator electrode, stirring system (including stir bar), and control system. The moisture content of the sample can be calculated based on the titer and consumed volume of the Karl Fischer titrant, as well as the sample mass.
